12" x 16" limited edition numbered digital print, hand embelished by the artist.
About the artwork -
This print was made specially for our residential school survivors and everyone who has felt the effects of residential schools. In the artwork, you see a kokum being embraced, which represents reconciliation between people who once have not gotten along. Four tipis were chosen because four is a significant number in our culture. It represents the four directions, four seasons and four parts of our self - mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. The lines coming up from the tipis are connecting our people to the sky. The eagle represents our prayers being taken to creator with the four prayer ties. The heart sun represents love. And lastly, you see fireweed in the foreground of the artwork. Fireweed grows after fires burn through forests. It shows that beautiful things can still come from destruction, and there is always hope for repairing relationships that were once broken. This artwork was created for National Truth and Reconciliation Day.
