Part of the "You Are Sacred" collection, this digital print series honours our Indigenous people, reminding them that they are sacred, no matter what.

Trigger Warning; MMIR, Violence, Residential Schools

Our communities experience racism, transphobia, judgement and discrimination on a daily basis. Our communities also experience housing problems, segregation, and environmental issues such as no running water in some communities. Our land rights are being ignored, with pipelines and data centres being built, without permission. Many children in our communities are or have been in foster care, away from their communities and culture. Indigenous women and girls have a vastly higher rate than non-Indigenous women and girls for violence, homicide, abuse and kidnappings. Often times our communities struggle with addiction, abuse and mental health issues from all of this, stemming from residential school trauma and intergenerational trauma. They tried to take our culture, language, traditions, and songs from us with violence and residential schools, they tried to "take the Indian out of us", and they still are. This artwork is to honour the survivors and the ancestors that came before us, and the ones who fought for us. This artwork is also to remind us that no matter what we have been through, no matter what people say, you are still sacred.
